List of Speech and Language Apps

Here is the list of "Speech and Language Apps" that I have promised to many!  These are some of my favorites that I use in therapy sessions daily.  It is often discouraging to purchase an app, go to use it and find that it was not what you thought!  (I have done that so many times.)  My hope is that this list will save you some of that disappointment and save you throwing away money!

App Review: Language Builder

Name:  Language Builder
Publisher: Special Education Store
Cost: $7.99
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

The Special Education Store publishes quite a few great speech and language apps (I have six of them).  Language Builder is a great place to start when purchasing their apps.  Before beginning, make sure you set the level you would like to use (1, 2, or 3).  The app offers a variety of true-to-life photographs that the children can describe.  Each picture gives the prompt "make a sentence about the picture.

App Review: Fun With Directions

Here is another one of my therapy favorites!!!

Name:  Fun With Directions
Published By: Hamaguchi Apps for Speech, Language, and Auditory Development
Cost: $9.99
My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Targets: Following directions, colors, spatial concepts, auditory memory, and auditory processing.  It specifically targets the demands: give, touch, close, open, top, middle, bottom, push, color, and erase.

How to use:  The home page is easy to navigate.  It allows you to set up and store basic settings for different users.

App Review: Bert's Bag

As I was looking through all of my apps, it was difficult to pick which one to review first!  So, I decided to pick an app that happens to be many of my younger client's favorites!  Bert's Bag!  Let's take a look!

Name:  Bert's Bag
Published By: Sesame Workshop Apps
Cost: $1.99
My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

This is one of my favorite apps because it can be used with children of all developmental levels and with children who are in all different communication stages!  The app specifically focuses on number recognition, counting, and following directions, but I use it for so much more!
